Resumen

Lo siguiente es la autocrítica de un proyecto de investigación sobre la movilización multilingüe de recursos lingüísticos con estudiantes de secundaria bilingües en Yucatán y en Florida. Iban a investigar diversos aspectos de su comunidad para intercambiarlos con el otro grupo, pero los intereses y compromisos divergentes entre todos los participantes afectaron específicamente la definición de los temas preferidos de los maestros Yucatecos (la cultura maya), de los investigadores en medio (la vida cotidiana de la comunidad), y de los estudiantes (alcoholismo y vandalismo). Fallos resultantes en el protocolo original de la investigación ofrecen una revisión de los trabajos de los estudiantes. En su interés de acomodar los intereses divergentes, su tratamiento de los temas en específico demuestra una dinámica más allá del enfoque lingüístico del protocolo original de la investigación. Al cumplir con el mismo al fin los estudiantes se vuelven participantes productivos en un proceso intercultural crítico.

Abstract

The following is a self-critique of a contrastive research project on the multilingual mobilization of linguistic resources with bilingual high school students in Yucatán and Florida. The students exchanged reports on various aspects of their respective community with the other group; the study specifically looked at translanguaging techniques employed on both sides. Unexpectedly, the choice of topic to be researched confronted the students with conflicting interests and commitments. The Yucatecan teachers favored projects on the traditional Mayan culture, the researchers such on the everyday life of the respective communities, and the students themselves more pressing social problems of their own experience, such as alcoholism, vandalism, and teenage pregnancy. A discourse analysis of the resulting reports on the Yucatecan side demonstrates a significant effort by the students to accommodate these various and conflicting interest by which, beyond the linguistic focus of the original research protocol, they ultimately become productive participants in a process of critical interculturality.
